Science Fiction (often called sci-fi or SF) is a popular genre of fiction in which the narrative world differs from our own present or historical reality in at least one significant way. This difference may be technological, physical, historical, sociological, philosophical, metaphysical, etc, but not magical (see Fantasy).

"The Project Gutenberg Science Fiction Bookshelf CD"
is a long title for a small thematic excerpt from the wealth of public domain works of Project Gutenberg . 165 SF ebooks have been extracted in all available formats. The base for the CD is formed by the Science Fiction (Bookshelf) page of the Project Gutenberg Wiki. The page is frequently updated by volunteers so visit it once in a while for new ebooks added.

Some technical info about the CD is located at the end of this page.

Technical Info

Most of the files are straight downloads from the Project Gutenberg website. Only the Plucker ebooks made from the HTML version of books which contain images have been recreated to include the images.

The layout of the CD is rather simple:

The CD of course works with any OS which has a decent browser. It has been tested with MacOS X and Linux. The extra files for Windows only create a bit of eye candy and save you the act of clicking index.html yourself. index.html itself works the same on any modern browser. Tested with IE 6 and 7 (Windows), Firefox (Windows and Linux), KHTML (Linux), Opera (Windows) and Safari (MacOS X).
